The Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre, in collaboration with the departments of Sociology and Community Health, University of Lagos, held the first of a series of seminars on the subject of Sexuality and Well-Being.
The goal of the Understanding Human Sexuality Seminar Series is to:

Provide a forum for exchange that will expand and shape the discourse, thinking and action on sexuality. |

Contribute to the documentation of sexuality from an African perspective. |
|
Promote healthy, respectful, responsible and pleasurable sexuality. |
The main presentations at the seminar were made by two distinguished scholars - Dr. Eno Blankson Ikpe, a senior lecturer in Social and Economic History; and Prof. Gboyega Alaba of the African and Asian Studies Department, both of the University of Lagos. The occasion was chaired by Prof. Bolanle Awe who was once the Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, also in Southwest Nigeria, and until recently, held the position of Country Director of MacArthur Foundation. The presentations were reviewed by Prof. Felicia Oyekanmi of the Department of Sociology and Dr. Kofo Odeyemi of the Department of Community Health, both of the University of Lagos.
The seminar, held in the auditorium of the University of Lagos Guest Houses and Conference Centre was well attended and drew an audience of about one hundred and fifty including academic staff and students from disciplines such as Asian and African studies, Creative Arts, Community Health, Curriculum, Economics, Estate Management, Geography, History, Languages, Law, Mass Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. Also present were heads and representatives of non-governmental organizations, international donor agencies and the media.
