ARSRC Hosts Scholars from Uganda and Ethiopia

Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre is hosting two visiting scholars from Ethiopia and Uganda under its Fellows programme.

Edith Okiria is a senior lecturer in the department of women and gender studies, faculty of social sciences, Makerere University. She holds a PhD from University of Manchester in the UK. She has carried out a number of studies with some publications: Sexual and Reproductive Health in Institutions of Higher Learning: A Challenge to the fight against HIV and AIDS, Status of Women in African Universities in Administration and Academic spheres, Quality of Parental Consent in Uganda Malaria study, Combating Sexual Harassment at Makerere University and Mapping Educational Pathways for marginalized University female students from war-torn Northern Uganda. she is currently doing a study on "Gender Relations in Sexuality and Ageing" .

Getnet Tadele (PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He has researched and published on sexuality, child abuse management, family violence against children, child abandonment and sexual abuse of girls and boys. His publication entitled: "Bleak Prospects: Young Men, Sexuality and HIV/AIDS in an Ethiopian Town", published by African Studies Centre (Leiden) deals with young people's experiences with sexuality and HIV/AIDS in the context of poverty and other structural issues. He is at ARSRC to complete a write-up of his research entitled:   "Behind the Veil: Sexuality and HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Addis Ababa" and to write publishable articles from this MSM research and other previous research projects.
